His work spans classical repertoire as well as jazz and Django-inspired styles.He has studied with Yoonshin Song\, David Halen\, and Hal Grossman\, and appears regularly in both concert and live performance environments.Patrick Sullivan | Guitar\nA multi-genre guitarist\, Patrick is the formative member of the Hawk Ridge Hot Club. Patrick’s love of Django made him a member of a number of Twin Cities based groups. A graduate of The University of St. Thomas\, Patrick performed and taught music in the metro area. Since moving back to Two Harbors\, Patrick combines a job doing wood finishing for high end home projects and performing in a number of groups.\nAndy Lipke | Guitar\nAndy Lipke has been a denizen of the Twin Ports music scene since 2004. He studied Jazz music at UMD and currently performs with Boxcar\, Theory of Light\, and the Hawk Ridge Hot Club. He has been known to keep several species of snakes.\nTimothy Churchill – Double Bass\nFrom classical orchestra to folk to jazz\, Timothy has performed in many ensembles in the Duluth / Superior region. Currently holding down the bass chair in The DCJB Big Band\, Tim has performed with the DSSO\, LSCO\, vocal ensembles\, and folk groups; and for 25 years played in ‘The Strollers’ trio.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for Author Talk with Lynette Reini-Grandell at the Silver Bay Public Library on Wednesday\, April 22nd from 6 PM to 7 PM!\n\nLynette Reini-Grandell will read from her work-in-progress and discuss her research process for writing historical fiction about northeastern Minnesota. The story focuses on changes the lumber industry brought to the land as well as the lives of early settlers in the Homestead Road area and Ojibwe people in northern Minnesota. The story is inspired by the lives of her grandparents who emigrated from Finland to the North Shore of Lake Superior in the early 20th century.\n\nLynette Reini-Grandell is the author of the memoir Wild Things: A Trans-Glam-Punk-Rock Love Story as well as two poetry collections: Wild Verge and Approaching the Gate. Often inspired by Finnish folk culture and song\, she frequently collaborates with Nordic Roots artists in multimedia performances.\n\nShe is a fiscal year 2025 recipient of a Creative Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board\, thanks to a legislative appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature; and by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.

DESCRIPTION:This year for National Volunteer Week\, Head of the Lakes United Way is teaming up with our non-profit partners in the Twin Ports and on the Northshore to celebrate current volunteers and spark volun-curiousity for those looking to give back to their community.  We are hosting two Volun-Cheers events that will feature door prizes\, food\, music and a chance to mingle with volunteers\, volunteer coordinators\, leaders from local non-profit organizations\, sponsors and participating businesses.  This event will be followed by a screening of a local documentary\, “the Middle Ground\,” highlighting the work of local volunteers with the Duluth Center of Women and Children in their Nourish Initiative.  The film will be shown at the Harbor Theater at 6:15pm.  Following this screening at 7pm\, the Harbor Theater will show “To Kill a Mocking Bird”.

This evening we feature live “listening room” experience by musical artists Gene LaFond & Amy Grillo with very special guest John Franken!\n\nGene and Amy –\nGene and Amy have been writing and performing together since 2012\, This Amazing acoustic duo performs original songs as well as unique renditions of some of their favorite artists from Dylan to dirt old country. Gene LaFond has been writing and performing for over 50 years. He has opened for Bob Dylan and has performed original songs twice\, Gene has played numerous venues throughout the years in the Twin Cities as well as a dozen or more times with renowned violinist Scarlet Rivera. Gene has also performed and traveled with legendary folk musician Ramblin Jack Elliott. Amy Grillo began singing around the campfires and in the bars and music venues of Minnesota’s Iron Range. She has a keen ear for harmony and is an amazing story teller! Her songs have a unique\, earthy and relatable feel. Her sweet harmonies and lyrical talent are a perfect compliment to Gene’s vocal and guitar picking style.

Lee has worked as a biological technician\, wildland firefighter\, and archaeological technician for the Superior National Forest since 2001\, and has served as the Forest Archaeologist since 2012.\n\n\nLee’s research interests include all things related to the history of northeastern Minnesota\, including the Fur Trade\, Ojibwe land use\, land management history\, historic logging\, and mining.
