Knife River, Minnesota

Captain Charles Anderson, a Norwegian seaman born in Oslo in 1840 and his wife Serene are recorded as the first permanent setters in Knife River. Following the arrival of the Alger-Smith Duluth & Northern Minnesota Railroad, the tiny settlement boomed and remained an important railroad center from 1898 – 1919.

Today Knife River is a small, close-knit community that inspires artisans to call it home. You can arrange for charter fishing at the marina or just explore the expansive pebble beach. The Superior Hiking Trail starts right in town and takes you along Knife River through birch and evergreen forests.
